SOUTHERN ONLINE BIO
Tie-up
with Icrisat
Southern
Online Bio Technologies limited (SBT) has entered into an agreement
with International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid
Tropics (Icrisat) to encourage cultivation of jatropha and pongamia
plants by farmers in their waste lands. It has also started
negotiations with banks to extend financial assistance to farmers.
It is also in negotiations to sell carbon emission reduction
(CER) achieved through a bio-diesel plant being set up near
the city with a capacity of 30 tonnes per day. A German consortium
had already given a letter of intent (Lol) to buy around 3000
tonnes of CERs at a cost of six euros per tonne. The company
is at present holding talks with the Bio Carbon Fund of World
Bank to sell CERs to them as well.
